Photo Wednesday: San Luis NWR Sunset
A favorite winter birding ground for me were the national refuges of California’s Central Valley. The refuges are functional locations, not particularly beautiful, but at the same time, there were areas that caught my eye and made me think if I hit them just right, I’d end up with something good. As it turned out, one day in December I happened to be near San Luis National Wildlife Refuge near sunset and decided to go see if I was right. The end result is this shot. A week later I returned for some birding, and a storm that had blown through had removed basically all of the leaves from all of the trees, making this a fairly unremarkable location for the rest of the winter.
