New e-Book: Birding 101 - Hints and Tips for the New Birder

I’m happy to announce the release of my latest e-book: Birding 101 - Hints and Tips for the New Birder

I’ve been working on this project for a couple of years, writing up and sharing answers to these common questions and discussing some of the mistakes I made as a new birder myself, and I’ve now collected them into this e-book. It will help a new birder avoid some of the most common challenges I’ve seen new birders run into, and hopefully shorten the learning curve and get them integrated into the larger birding community more easily.

If you are new to birding, or curious about taking it up as a hobby or outside activity, I hope this book will de-mystify some of the things birders do and the jargon they use, and help you understand how to best enjoy the parts of birding you find you like — while hopefully keeping you from making some of the mistakes I made when starting out.

This book is different from most of my previous books in that it’s mostly text, not images — there’s over 15,000 words inside. I also produced this in a new way, creating the online version first and then building the physical book for my shelves and PDF from that content. I really like making these available here on this site as well as via PDF, so I expect that will continue in future e-books as well.

It is available both as an online version and as a PDF you can download and read on any of your devices.

If you are a new birder, or someone who’s gotten interesting in birdwatching and aren’t sure how to get started, this book is for you.

If you read the e-book, I’d love to hear what you think — just drop me an email.
