Minor Site Updates
I just made some minor site updates here on chuq.me to fix something that’s been annoying me for a while. Every so often I want to bring up one of my images in the galleries and share that image out to someone or a group — and the way Squarespace sets up their galleries, I can only share the page, not an image on it. I think this has to do with limiting image theft and or use without permission, fwiw.
I’ve also been using (and have talked about a few times) the Glass photo hosting/sharing service for a while, and really like it, but have never really figured out how it fit into my larger online presence. In this latest round of “dammit, how do I share this image?”, I realized I had the solution — Glass. So I have uploaded all of the images in my four portfolio galleries to Glass, and then set each image on the Squarespace site to link to that image, so if you see an image you like, you can now click on it and go to that image on Glass, where you can share it with your friends (please do!)
Or more likely, I’ll be doing that now, since I finally can.
While I was at it, I revised the Wildlife portfolio significantly and made a couple of minor changes to the other three, plus I finally fixed one other long standing annoyance, which was I have long wished that the photos were captioned — and through the magic of a couple of evenings of copy/pasting links and typing captions into the system, they now do. I’m also happy to have added my first Washington photo (and first from my new Sony gear) to one of my portfolios, with that bald eagle shot I took in July becoming the newest member of my bird portfolio.
I’ll be doing more of this down the road as I post new galleries or portfolios, and I hope to go and retrofit the other galleries at some point (but not right away) as well.
Small updates, but whenever you can remove small annoyances in your life, it can make sense to do so. And maybe I’m the only person who’ll ever notice these changes, but I’m happy to see them in place (finally).
