Drum Dancer
Some of you might remember that Laurie and I are collectors of First Nations art, which we have been doing since the early 1990’s. A lot of our collection is west coast carvings, but we’ve also got a number of carved stone and antler pieces, mostly Inuit. One of the things that has been on my want list for many years is a nice drum dancer, but it’s been tough to find one that didn’t cost more than I wanted to pay, so I’ve never added one to my collection.
Until now. This is a beautiful drum dancer by an Alaskan native artist, Wendy Hook. My first piece from Alaska, a smaller piece at about 5” tall, carved out of soapstone, and I found it on Etsy and immediately fell in love with it. It’s the perfect size to sit behind my desk next to the Errol Ashley carved loon serving bowl. Her work is available through the Douglas Creek Sculpture company, and you can find it on Etsy.
If you love it, check out her other pieces she has available.
