Bald Eagle Nest
Written By Chuq Von Rospach
Back in January I was shown the location of a Bald Eagle nest. My intention was to do what I did back in California, which was visit regularly and record the nest happenings until the chicks fledged. Here it is in Mid March, and I finally got back there for the first time.
The eagles seem to be about a month behind the nests I monitored in California, where the eggs might hatch in mid- to late-February. My guess is they haven’t laid yet, because while they’re hanging out together in the nest, they aren’t sitting on eggs as far as I can tell. In the photos below I think the female is on the left, since they’re usually bigger than the males, but it’s hard to tell.
(location is not being disclosed. well, okay: somewhere in Washington)
